Knock-Off Dollhouse Bookcase

I've admired these dollhouse bookcases in Pottery Barn Kids and Land of Nod
ever since our baby girl was born.

Now that she is older (she will be TWO on Friday!!) and enjoys playing with girly things in her room,
I knew we had to get one of these for her to store her girly treasures in.

But with prices around $200, I knew we'd either have to build it ourselves or find a knock-off for way cheaper.

With Christmas looming around the corner and little time to devote to building one, buying one was really our only option.

A while back I happened to stumble upon one of these adorable dollhouse bookcases at Target.
It looked very similar to the one from Pottery Barn Kids, except it had a pink roof instead of a green one.
Oh and the price was a quite different too...
$79 instead of Pottery Barn's $199!!

Still, I held off on buying it.

This morning, however, I was perusing Target's weekly ad
and lo and behold,
the very same bookcase is now on sale for $60!

So, I packed up the kids and raced out and bought it for our little girl.

Good thing they are still young enough not to realize what I am buying...hee hee!

By the way, if you're interested in building one of these
{and unlike us, you have time to spare},
Ana White has great FREE plans to build it HERE.

  1. Great tips. Only thing, we bought this adorable bookcase from Target. It was so easy to put together, but it had the most horrible smell. We set the built bookcase outside on nice days and in our garage for three months and the smell never went away. This chemical smell was so bad that we returned it. Even opened another package in store and it had the same chemical smell. Product came from China. Won't have my daughter near this bookcase. Such a cute bookcase though. We were so disappointed to return it. Won't risk having a child play next to something that is potentially harmful just because it looks cute.Sorry, still looking for an affordable dollhouse bookcase without worry of any chemical smell.

  2. I'm sorry to hear you did not have a good experience with the doll house bookcase from Target. The one we bought didn't have any smell. Best wishes on finding an alternative :)

  3. I love it- and it will last so much longer than the plastic ones anyway! Kids Doll Houses As they play it promotes an imaginative play which is very essential for young kids. They allow or help children to act things and situation they've observed and heard at home. These will also enhance their social skills, conversational vocabularies and stretch their creativity and imagination as well. Playing in the dollhouse may also help children to convey their ideas, feelings, concerns, enjoyment and happiness.
